5 Days Bhutan Tour from Kathmandu – Mystic Bhutan Tour

Mystic Bhutan Tour is a 5 Days Bhutan Tour designed to introduce you to the breathtaking Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan through its spectacular landscapes, Buddhist culture, ancient monasteries, historic monuments, and traditional way of life.

This 5-day Bhutan tour is ideal for travelers looking for a short but memorable Bhutan holiday. The journey combines the cultural highlights of Thimphu, the scenic beauty of Punakha, and the iconic Tiger's Nest Monastery (Taktsang Lhakhang) in Paro.

The tour can be arranged from Kathmandu, Delhi, Dhaka, Bangkok, or Singapore, subject to the availability of direct flights operated by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines.

Bhutan Tour from Kathmandu

Our Bhutan Tour from Kathmandu is a convenient option for travelers visiting Nepal who want to combine a Nepal holiday with a short trip to Bhutan.

Your journey begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan's only international airport. After completing the arrival formalities, your private Bhutanese guide and driver will meet you at Paro Airport.

From Paro, you will travel by road to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. The drive takes you through beautiful Himalayan scenery and gives you your first impression of Bhutan's unique landscape and traditional architecture.

Depending on your flight arrival time, you will begin exploring the major attractions of Thimphu on the same day.

Thimphu – Capital City of Bhutan

Thimphu is the political and cultural heart of Bhutan and one of the most interesting places to visit during your 5 Days Bhutan Tour.

The city offers a fascinating combination of traditional Bhutanese architecture, Buddhist culture, government institutions, monasteries, markets, and modern Bhutanese life.

Your sightseeing in Thimphu may include some of the city's important cultural attractions, depending on your arrival time and the final itinerary.

Punakha – The Former Capital of Bhutan

After exploring Thimphu, your Bhutan road journey continues toward Punakha, one of the most beautiful valleys in the country.

Punakha was the capital of Bhutan before the capital was moved to Thimphu in 1955. Today, it is famous for its magnificent landscapes, pleasant climate, traditional villages, Buddhist heritage, and the spectacular Punakha Dzong.

Punakha is located at the confluence of Bhutan's two major rivers, the Pho Chu and Mo Chu. The surrounding valleys, rivers, rice fields, forests, and mountains make Punakha one of the highlights of this short Bhutan trip.

The journey from Thimphu to Punakha is also an attraction in itself, as you travel through winding Himalayan roads and spectacular mountain scenery.

Paro and the Famous Tiger's Nest Monastery

After your cultural and nature experience in Punakha, you will return to Paro Valley, where one of the most memorable experiences of the trip awaits.

The major highlight of this 5 Days Bhutan Tour is the excursion to Taktsang Lhakhang, popularly known as Tiger's Nest Monastery.

The monastery is dramatically situated on a cliff above the Paro Valley and is one of the most sacred and recognizable Buddhist sites in Bhutan.

According to Bhutanese tradition, Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) meditated at this site in the 8th century. The monastery complex was established in 1692 and has become an important pilgrimage destination and symbol of Bhutan.

The hike to Tiger's Nest takes you through pine forests and mountain scenery before reaching the monastery perched high above the valley. It is a rewarding experience and one of the highlights of any Bhutan tour from Kathmandu or Delhi.

5 Days Bhutan Tour from Delhi, Dhaka, Bangkok and Singapore

The Mystic Bhutan Tour can also be arranged for travelers starting their journey from other cities, depending on the available flight schedules.

Direct flights to Paro may be available from destinations including:

  • Kathmandu, Nepal
  • Delhi, India
  • Dhaka, Bangladesh
  • Bangkok, Thailand
  • Singapore

Flight schedules and routes operated by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines are subject to change, so the exact starting point and flight arrangements will depend on the current airline schedule.

Useful Information for Mystic Bhutan tour

Private Guided Bhutan Tour

The Mystic Bhutan Tour is available exclusively as a private guided tour. This means you will travel with your own private Bhutanese guide and vehicle rather than joining a fixed group tour.

A private tour allows greater flexibility during sightseeing and gives you more personal attention from your guide. The itinerary can also be adjusted, where practical, according to your interests, flight schedule, walking pace, and available time.

Flights to Bhutan

Your Bhutan journey begins with a flight to Paro International Airport, Bhutan's only international airport. Depending on the current flight schedule, your private Bhutan tour can be arranged from Kathmandu, Delhi, Dhaka, Bangkok, or Singapore. Flights are operated by Bhutan's national airline, Drukair, and Bhutan Airlines, subject to route and seasonal availability.

Flight schedules may change, so we recommend confirming the available flight options before finalizing your travel dates or you may consult with Himalayan Mentor.

Bhutan Visa and Entry Requirements

Most international travelers require a Bhutan visa before entering the country. We will assist with the necessary arrangements as part of your private Bhutan tour.

Your passport should have sufficient validity for international travel, and travelers should provide the required documents well in advance of the departure date.

Best Time for a 5-Day Bhutan Tour

Bhutan can be visited throughout the year, and each season offers a different experience.

  • Spring (March–May) is popular for pleasant weather, blooming flowers, and beautiful mountain scenery.
  • Autumn (September–November) generally offers clear skies and excellent conditions for sightseeing and the Tiger's Nest hike.
  • Winter (December–February) can be cold, particularly in the higher areas, but the valleys can be peaceful and less crowded.
  • Summer/Monsoon (June–August) brings greener landscapes and occasional rainfall. Weather conditions can affect road and flight schedules.

Tiger's Nest Hike

The visit to Taktsang Lhakhang, commonly known as Tiger's Nest Monastery, is the main hiking experience of this private Bhutan tour.
The trail climbs through pine forests and mountain terrain to the monastery, which is dramatically situated on a cliff above Paro Valley. You should allow several hours for the round-trip excursion, including time to explore the site. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Comfortable walking shoes are essential.

Because this is a private tour, you can discuss the walking pace and timing with your guide, making the experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Alternatively, a horseback riding option is available up to the cafeteria. From the cafeteria, you will need to walk to the monastery and then walk back to the point where the hike ends.

What to Wear in Bhutan

Bhutan has a strong Buddhist culture, and modest dress is expected when visiting monasteries, temples and dzongs.

We recommend carrying:

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Warm layers
  • A waterproof jacket
  • Long trousers or modest clothing
  • Sun hat and sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • A small daypack
  • Personal medication
  • Reusable water bottle

When visiting religious and cultural sites, your guide will explain the appropriate dress and local etiquette.

Food During the Tour

Bhutanese cuisine is an important part of the travel experience. You can enjoy traditional dishes such as Ema Datshi, rice, vegetables, momos and other local specialties.

Depending on your hotel and restaurant arrangements, a selection of international and Asian dishes may also be available.

If you have dietary requirements or food allergies, please let us know when booking so that suitable arrangements can be made.

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in carefully selected hotels in accordance with the itinerary and your chosen hotel category. Standard to luxury accommodation options are available in Bhutan, allowing you to choose the hotel category that best suits your preferences and budget. As this is a private Bhutan tour, accommodation arrangements can be discussed according to your preferences and budget, subject to availability.

Transportation

You will travel by a private vehicle with a private Bhutanese driver and guide throughout the tour. Your private transportation provides greater comfort and flexibility compared with a group tour, particularly when traveling between Paro, Thimphu and Punakha.

Travel Insurance

We recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance before your Bhutan trip. Your policy should cover medical expenses, emergency assistance, trip cancellation, baggage, and travel delays.

Money and Payments

Bhutan's local currency is the Ngultrum (Nu.). Credit cards and ATMs are available in major towns, although it is advisable to carry some local currency for small purchases and places where card payments may not be available.

Internet and Mobile Connectivity

Wi-Fi is available at many hotels in the main tourist areas. Mobile connectivity can vary when traveling through remote mountain areas.
If staying connected is important to you, your guide or local travel representative can advise you about available mobile and SIM options.

A Flexible Private Experience

One of the main advantages of choosing the Mystic Bhutan Tour as a private trip is the personalized experience. Rather than traveling according to the pace of a large group, you can enjoy the journey with your own private guide and vehicle. Where practical, sightseeing times and daily activities can be adjusted according to your interests, energy level, weather, and local conditions.

This makes the 5 Days Private Bhutan Tour from Kathmandu an excellent choice for couples, families, friends, and individual travelers looking for a more personal way to discover Bhutan.
